In 2015, the House of Representatives passed the Safety Against Foreign Enemies Act, a bill that would shut down the practice of admitting unvetted refugees into the United States.

The legislation would require that certified background checks be performed on each refugee seeking entry into the US.

It didn't just pass the House. It passed with a bipartisan, veto-proof majority. However, when the bill reached the Senate, Harry Reid launched a filibuster.

You see, Reid didn't want to embarass President Obama. He knew that the President would veto the bill and Senate Democrats would have no choice but to vote for the common-sense proposal and override his veto.

Democratic party leadership made a decision to leave the American people vulnerable in order to protect the President from being overridden. This is the dfeinition of playing politics with American lives.

After last night's terror attack in Manchester, England, people are once again calling for the passage of the American SAFE Act.

Even though Donald Trump ran on a promise to shut down unvetted refugee admissions and signed an executive order to do just that, activist judges on the West Coast intervened. They decided that President Obama's refugee policies were better for the country. Not only did they block President Trump's extreme vetting proposals, but they demanded the Obama-era policies be reimplemented.

This can't be about politics. This has to be about keeping the American people safe. You swore an oath to protect this country. Today, we remain vulnerable to the same types of attacks because we still don't know who is coming into this country.

The Safety Against Foreign Enemies Act is common-sense. Any refugee looking to enter the US would be subjected to a background check. If the intel agencies certify the refugee doesn't pose a threat, they are allowed in. Right now, the opposite is true. People are allowed into the US without passing a certified background check.

I am demanding that you pass this legislation. Take solid steps to keep the American people safe. If you wait for the next attack on US soil, it will be too late...
