The votes aren't there on Capitol Hill to confirm Neil Gorsuch under the current rules. The Democrats are committed to leaving Justice Scalia's seat vacant.

But there also aren't enough Republican votes to invoke the Nuclear Option to confirm him, either.

There are Republicans who would rather leave the seat vacant, or fill it with a liberal, than do everything in their power to confirm a true conservative. This is absolutely shameful.

And these turncoats must be shamed. They must be made to realize the price they will pay if they go down this path!

Less than a year ago, Democrats were demanding that Merrick Garland be given a fair up or down vote. Republicans in Congress decided to leave it up to the American people to decide. The future balance of the Supreme Court was a major campaign issue, with both Hillary Clinton and Donld Trump making the case to the American people for why their type of nominee would be best for the future of the country.

President Trump even released a list of judges he would consider. Neil Gorsuch was on that list.

The American people decided.

Today, Democrats have decided to ignore the will of the American people and filibuster Neil Gorsuch, an exceptionally qualified nominee to the Supreme Court. They are committed to leaving the seat vacant.

All of this can be put to bed, however, if Congressional leadership invokes the Reid Rule and uses the Nuclear Option to bust through this obstructionist filibuster.

However, the votes aren't there to invoke the nuclear option. There are Republicans in both chambers who are actually advocating leaving Justice Scalia's seat vacant rather than using the Reid Rule.

I am writing to you today to make it abundantly clear that regardless of political party, there will be electoral consequences for anyone who tries to block Neil Gorsuch's nomination. I don't care whether you vote against cloture, confirmation, or a change to the rules, We the People will not stand for this.

You have an obligation to support this nominee and do everything in your power to see that he is confirmed.

Anything less is unacceptable.
