Yesterday, on the first day of the new Congress, Representative Richard Hudson formally re-introduced the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.

This legislation is absolutely common sense. It would get rid of the country's patchwork system of reciprocity laws and treat concealed carry permits the same way we treat driver's licenses.

If you are licensed to carry a concealed weapon in your state, or you are permitted to do wo without a license, then that right will extend to all 50 states as well.

Every year, we hear far too many stories about law-abiding Americans who accidentally bring their loaded handguns into anti-gun states like Maryland and New Jersey. Even though they are licensed to carry a firearm in their home states, their Second Amendment rights magically disappear when they cross the state border.

Americans should not be turned into felons simply because they exercise Constitutionally-protected rights across state lines.

The right to free speech or religious worship transcends state boundaries. So does the Constitutionally-protected right to a jury trial.

It is time to do the same for the 2nd Amendment's right to bear arms.

The Supreme Court has ruled that when the 2nd Amendment talks about 'bearing arms,' it is specifically talking about an individual right to carry firearms for self-defense.

The reality is that right now, 25% of Americans live in states where this right is completely violated.

Passing this legislation will be a good first step towards expanding the right to carry nationwide.

I strongly urge you to vote for this legislation and pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act as soon as possible!
