One of the bill's sponsors, Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and has said that the bill will be voted on.

On January 31, 2016, Sarah Root sat in her Oldsmobile at an intersection, waiting for the light to go Green. An illegal alien named Eswin Mejia rammed his pickup truck into her car at such a high speed, he sent Sarah's car flying 800 feet through the intersection.

Mejia was street racing and was driving drunk, with a BAC that was three-times the legal limit.

When Sarah’s parents arrived at the hospital after being notified of a crash, they expected to see their daughter with a broken arm or leg. No one told them that they were being brought in to identify the body.

Sarah Root spent three days in the hospital. Her spinal cord was severed and her skull fractured in two places, but her parents kept her on life support to give the medical staff time to collect her organ donations.

The pathetic truth is that Sarah's killer spent as much time in jail as she spent on life support. Sarah Root's funeral cost more than her killer's bail.

Now, Eswin Mejia is nowhere to be found. He has disappeared back into society.

Sarah's Law has been introduced to make sure this never happens again. The premise is simple: If an illegal alien is charged with killing or severely injuring someone, then they must be remanded into custody and denied bail.

It's common sense.

Illegal aliens who kill innocent people shouldn't be allowed to post bail and disappear back into the shadows.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, one of the bill's co-sponsors, chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee. This legislation will move through committee and come to a floor vote.
