The Obama administration just used another executive action to attack the firearms community.

They have redefined the term weapons "manufacturing" under ITAR in order to lump neighborhood gunsmiths into the same category as companies manufacturing weapons and selling them abroad.

Many gunsmiths work out of their garages. They help their neighbors fix guns that break or malfunction or they make alterations to get them ready for hunting season, for example.

The Obama administration's logic is that there is a loophole that allows a part-time gunsmith, working out of his garage or basement, to service weapons for foreign warlords. It's just ludicrous.

But that is exactly what the Obama administration is trying to do.

Domestic American firearms law is clear on this matter. But because the United States is a party in many international arms treaties, including the UN Arms Trade Treaty that Obama signed without Congressional approval, the State Department has an unusual amount of power in regulating American gun companies.

If a warlord in the Middle East or Africa needs a new barrel for his gun, only an idiot would think he would send it to the United States so a local gunsmith could fix it for him.

It's just so ridiculous that it is almost comical, except for the fact that all gunsmiths will now be forced to pay the State Department more than $2,000 every year just to stay in business. For the gunsmiths who just provide a service for their neighbors in their part-time, this will put them out of business. For gun shops that offer gunsmithing services to their clients, they will either have to raise their prices or cut the service entirely.

What Obama just did is illegal. It flies in the face of the definitions set-forward in domestic American firearms law pertaining to what constitutes a firearms manufacturer.

It is unconstitutional because it deliberately targets a protected 2nd Amendment industry.

And it is unconscionable because tens of thousands of Americans, if not more, will now lose the ability to make sure their firearms are safe and well-maintained.

You must overturn this executive action! Not in a few weeks... not when you get around to it... now means now!
