Paul Ryan and other House leaders unveiled the latest gun control bill this morning. This legislation would turn our judicial system on its head and give the government the power to presume someone guilty until proven innocent.

There is no 'due process' within this bill. The government will be given the power to block citizens from purchasing firearms if they suspect someone is a terrorist. Once they make this declaration, the individual having his or her rights violated would get to hire a lawyer and go to court to prove they are innocent.

Forcing an American citizen to pay out of pocket to prove their innocence in court when they aren’t even being charged with a crime is not due process. This is a complete perversion of our justice system.

If the people on the terror watch list were terrorists, why wouldn't they be arrested when turned away from boarding an airplane? Right now, they are questioned and then sent home. Likewise, when a foreign alien is put on the No Fly List, they are not prohibited from renewing their immigration visa or even applying for citizenship.

That is because being placed on an arbitrary list does not make someone a terrorist. Only a court of law can make that determination.

If you want to stop suspected terrorists from purchasing weapons, then you need to encourage the DOJ to charge these suspects with crimes. If the government does not even have enough evidence to charge someone with a crime, it is unconscionable to consider giving them the authority to suspend portions of the Bill of Rights.

Paul Ryan and company declared that the first votes on this unconstitutional legislation will be today. You need to do everything in your power to stop this.

If you won't stand up and prevent this legislation from passing then We the People will have no choice but to assume that you support dismantling the Bill of Rights. If that's the case, we will vote accordingly.
