New Exec Order: Obama Decides When You Can Buy a Gun

Right now, the FBI is allowed to take up to three days to process a gun purchase background check. In the digital age, this is more than necessary. But because one NICS agent was incompetent and missed the fact that the Charleston shooter was a criminal, now the Left wants to give the FBI unlimited time to conduct 'instant' gun buyer background checks.

Even with all the gun control laws on the books, there's still the understanding that individuals have a right to purchase firearms. If the government can't find a reason to prohibit the purchase within three days, that individual right prevails. Democrats are now trying to turn the tides. Instead of respecting your individual Second Amendment rights, they want to give even more power to the government.

If this executive order, the Obama administration would get the power to indefinitely delay gun purchases. You MUST force Congress to put a stop to this madness!

When someone buys a firearm from a licensed dealer, he or she must undergo a background check. The individual purchaser pays for this check and the government has up to three days to discover a reason to deny the transfer.

Even with all the gun control laws on the books, there's still the understanding that individuals have a right to purchase firearms. They want to make these "instant" background checks open ended. If this goes through, the government could delay or deny a gun transfer indefinitely for whatever reason.

Some of your colleagues are actually encouraging the President to circumvent Congress and change the law using an executive order.

This would give the administration the power to prevent gun purchases at any time for any reason.

When background checks became mandatory, the internet was in its infancy and all records were stored as paper files. The three-day limit was put in place to give background check agents enough time to track down these files and have them mailed/faxed over.

Today, records are digital. Criminal records can be accessed instantaneously. The idea that background checks take longer than 3-days in the 21st Century is ludicrous. This is nothing but an attempt to give the government even more power to infringe on citizens' constitutional rights and that is unacceptable. You MUST put a stop to this madness!
