Obama Can’t Be Trusted With This Much Power

Congress is about to give Obama more power than he can be trusted with. Instead of using their treaty powers within the Constitution to protect the American people, they are going to cede this authority to the President so he can protect the interests of his corporate donors.

What we know about the treaty proves it is bad for the country. But the fact that Congress wants nothing to do with it and refuses to make the details public raises more questions than answers.

However, Congress CANNOT be allowed to give Obama the power to "fast-track" the treaty and negotiate it on his own. If left unchecked, he could add whatever he wants to the treaty, including the UN Arms Trade Treaty language.

We have to stop this. The GOP is ready to give up their treaty powers to Obama once agains. This cannot be allowed to happen and it is up to YOU to raise your voice and put a stop to it!

What are you so afraid of? The Constitution gives you and your colleagues the power to ratify treaties. Instead of performing this function, Congress is about to cede it's power to the President and give him "fast-track" authority to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

We don't know a lot about the treaty because its authors and supporters are keeping it private. Some components have leaked. We know, for example, that the TPP would allow corporations to sue states in private courts.

Trade agreements are too important to be kept private. We are talking about Americans' livelihoods here...

If the agreement is so good for America, then there should be no problem in making the language available to the public.

But this agreement isn't good for America. It might be good for your corporate donors and contributors, but it's not for the American people...

You want to give Obama "fast-track" powers? Then he can add whatever he wants to the treaty.

There is a legitimate fear that the President would include gun control language into the treaty -- similar to the UN Arms Trade Treaty -- and you and your colleagues would be powerless to stop it.

Obama abuses every power he has and now you want to give him more? Unacceptable!

You must put a stop to this. If you believe the TPP is good for America, then put it up for a floor vote and make the language public. If you aren't comfortable doing this, then you're a coward.
