All right, pay attention. It's time for a history lesson. The Founding Fathers gave Congress the power to ratify treaties for a reason. The fate of the country is too important to allow one man to commit us to foreign agreements.

While the President has a lot of power but when it comes to treaties, the Founders were clear: 2/3 of the Senate has to agree for the treaty to be ratified.

This past week, some of your colleagues announced compromises that would cede this on the Iran nuclear deal.

What are you so afraid of? You would have to be truly afraid to cede this authority to the White House. Are you that afraid of getting your hands dirty and standing up to this Imperial President?

Instead of forcing a vote to go through the Senate for ratification on the Iran treaty, the "compromise" will allow the Senate to hold a vote of disapproval instead, which the President can easily veto.

This completely changes the dynamic. Instead of a majority of the Senate having the power to block a treaty, the power shifts to the minority by giving them the ability to block a veto-override. Instead of 67 Senators being required to ratify the deal, the power shifts to just 34 Democrats.

That is what your colleagues are asking you to support. The complete cessation of Congress' ratification powers.

You're job is to make sure that this treaty is right for the country.

The Founders gave you and your colleagues treaty powers for a reason. One man should never have the authority to enter an entire nation into a foreign agreement.

Yet instead of standing up to this Imperial President, you are giving him more power. Instead of honoring your oath, you are doing the bare minimum necessary to claim you "tried."

This is UNACCEPTABLE!

Ted Cruz is trying to push through a simple amendment. It would officially classify the nuclear deal as a treaty and require a 2/3 Senate vote for ratification.

If you won’t help get this amendment added to the legislation, then you clearly want the deal to go through.
