There isn't a lot that Democrats and Republicans agree on nowadays. By the numbers, the country is more politically polarized than at any other point since the civil war.
But there is one thing that Democrats, Republicans, and Independents agree on: term limits.
Sen. Ted Cruz has introduced a bill that would limit how long Congressman and Senators are allowed to serve in Congress. Defying Mitch McConnell, Cruz even held a committee hearing so that the bill would qualify for advancement.
S.J.Res. 1 would create term limits for both the House and the Senate. Congressmen would only be allowed to serve three terms (six years) and Senators would have to leave after serving two terms (twelve years).
When Cruz introduced this bill back in 2017, he stood alone. Today, the House and Senate versions of the bill now have 64 co-sponsors, including 2 Democrats!
Now, Cruz is rallying support to force a vote on his common-sense bill, and he needs your help!
Donald Trump ran on a very simple campaign promise to “Drain the Swamp.” One of his proposals was instituting term limits in Congress.
We can debate how long those term limits can be. But the point is that the GOP and Democrats are blocking Congress from even having that debate…
And it makes complete sense. McConnell has been in office for 35 years. Of course, Nancy Pelosi doesn't want this resolution to go anywhere. She's been in the House for 33 years. And Chuck Schumer… don't even get me started there. After spending 18 years in the House, Chuck is now about to start "serving" his 21st year in the Senate.
What new ideas can these people possibly bring to the table when they have been in office for more than three decades?
They have been promising to fix the same problems for the last 30+ years. It is obvious that they aren't interested in or capable of fixing them…
People don’t run for re-election 5 times in order to serve their constituents. They do so in order to serve themselves.
That is what Ted Cruz’s bill is all about: restoring the United States Congress to a service model, not one centered on personal-enrichment.
Both the Republican and Democrat leadership are trying to block this resolution from moving forward. But if you join us in bombarding Congress with a quarter million faxes today, we can force them to schedule a debate!
We need your help right now!
We have never been so close to winning. For the first time, we have bipartisan support for a term limit bill, and a President willing to help push it through.
Since the day Trump was inaugurated, the career politicians have fought tooth and nail to stop this bill from reaching the floor. They are desperate to hold onto their power for as long as possible.
You must make sure that they fail!
