When this whole impeachment witch hunt started, we warned that the GOP cannot be trusted.
Mitt Romney's office has been quietly counting the votes. We now know they believe that if the vote was to be held in secret, somewhere between 30 and 35 Republican Senators would vote to remove Donald Trump from office. The same goes for the House of Representatives. The only thing stopping dozens of Republicans from turning on the President is the fact that doing so would be political suicide...
Under the current House and Senate rules, all impeachment votes have to be made in public, out in the open. Neither Democrats nor Republicans can hide from the American people on this.
But all of that could change. Democrats are now working with Mitt Romney's office and other Establishment Republicans to change the rules to allow impeachment votes to be held in secret.
It would take 20 Republicans to flip in the Senate for Trump to be removed from office. With a public ballot, that will likely never happen.
But it would only take THREE Republicans to vote with the Left in order to hold the vote using a secret ballot. While it takes 67 votes to remove the President from office, it only takes 51 votes to change the rules. We already know that Mitt Romney and Susan Collins are leaning towards voting against Trump. If just one more Republican were to flip, they would have the power to run the impeachment vote in secret.
Over the years, the GOP has used this tactic to avoid going on the record for controversial votes. Last year, establishment Republicans held secret votes to open up the borders and make it easier for illegal aliens to commit asylum fraud. We led the charge against these establishment GOPers and with your help, we outed the "mastermind," Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-KS), and he was removed from office last November.
The idea is that if the impeachment vote were held in secret, more Republicans would be able to vote against the President without having to worry about the political consequences of their vote. Democrats are now floating this idea in the House as well. As you know, there are 40 Democrats up for re-election next year in districts that Trump won. In some cases, Trump won their districts by 20% back in 2016. Not only would a secret ballot give cover to Republican turncoats, but it would allow vulnerable Democrats to vote to impeach without having to go on the record.
They spent a month holding secret hearings. It only makes sense that they would try to hold a secret vote too...
They are trying to undo the 2016 election and they want to do it in secret!
Make no mistake, this is a Republican plan. Republicans are the ones proposing holding secret impeachment votes.
They want to be able to remove the President from office without having to face the consequences of their actions...
These GOP traitors are literally saying that they know better than the 63 million Americans who elected Donald Trump.
And now they have a plan to do just that!
You must -- absolutely MUST -- rise up and shut down this coup!
