Republicans are livid after Trump reprogrammed another 200 million for border wall construction!
This week, we reported that President Trump vetoed the GOP's legislation S.J.Res. 54, a bill designed to strip all funding from the border wall project and cancel Trump's national emergency.
Well, the Senate held a vote to try to override Trump's veto and they fell short. They needed 20 Republicans to vote with the Left to get the two-thirds necessary. During the veto override vote, 10 Republicans decided to side with the Left.
The GOP turncoats were Blunt (MO), Collins (ME), Lee (UT), Romney (UT), Murkowski (AK), Paul (KY), Portman (OH), Rubio (FL), Toomey (PA), and Wicker (MS). Both Lamar Alexander (TN) and Jerry Moran (KS) voted for the bill originally, but decided not to try to override Trump's veto...
But while all of this was happening, President Trump did something remarkable. He authorized 200 million more in Pentagon funds to be redirected to the border wall project. The bulk of this new funding -- over 129 million of it -- comes from a Military program designed to combat the drug trade in Afghanistan. This is what it means to put America First. Instead of policing Afghanistan, these funds will not be used to secure our border.
The GOP was absolutely furious. These turncoat Senators immediately started calling the White House and ordering Trump to stand down. But the President is not budging.
This new funding will now allow for dozens of miles of additional border wall. Instead of the government building 505 miles over the next year, that number is now creeping towards 550 miles...
We have been waiting years for this -- a President who is willing to do everything in his power to secure the border and keep the American people safe. But now that the border wall is finally going up -- about a mile of new wall is finished every day -- the GOP wants to shut it all down!
As I said, it takes a two-thirds vote in the House and Senate to override a Presidential veto. The Establishment doesn't have the votes for that. They came up ten votes short and don't have nearly that much support in the House...
It also takes 60 votes to pass a bill in the Senate through the traditional process. This most recent vote shows the Establishment doesn't have enough support for that either... So passing a border wall ban as a standalone bill would be impossible.
But both the House and Senate can pass a bill with a simple majority using a process known as reconciliation. The reconciliation process can only apply to bills dealing with the budget and Federal spending. Basically, when the House and Senate pass different versions of the same same spending bill, the leadership of both sides meet behind closed doors and come up with a "compromise" bill. That "compromise" legislation can then be passed in both chambers through just a simple majority.
In order for the Senate to pass a Democrat reconciliation bill, only 4 GOPers need to flip. That is what the Leftists and their Establishment allies are pushing for now.
The House Democrats have spent the year packing their spending bills with anti-border wall amendments. As we have reported, Section 227 of the Homeland Security Appropriations Act and Section 2801 of the National Defense Authorization Act explicitly prohibit Federal funds from being used on border wall construction.
Up until now, the GOP has refused to sign onto the Left's plan. But now that Trump has secured another 200 million in border wall funding, these Republican turncoats know they are running out of time to stop the President...
Democrats are now advancing their poison pill spending bills and refusing to back down. They are so desperate to stop Trump that they are willing to shut down both the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security to do it. The Left is threatening to hold our national security and defense hostage unless the GOP agrees to shutdown Trump's border wall construction. And these Republican cowards are already caving...
There is a silver lining. Your pressure really is working. When Congress voted to cancel border wall construction back in February and March, there were 13 Senate Republicans who voted with Democrats. When they voted in September, the number dwindled down to 11. And in last week's vote to override Trump's veto, only 10 Republicans voted with the Left...
Every time Congress holds a vote on this, fewer and fewer GOPers sign onto it. They are realizing it is political suicide to help the Democrats shut down the border wall project, and are running away from it as fast as they can.
Democrats know if they want to kill the border wall construction, it has to be now before any more of their Republican allies back down... That is what makes the Left so dangerous right now.
If this bill passes, then there is no coming back. Ongoing border wall construction in California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas would immediately end and almost 500 miles of planned border wall would be cancelled.
It all comes down to this. President Trump is doing everything he can to secure the border, but he can't do it alone.
He needs YOU to rise up and stop this GOP open border surrender before it is too late!
And it has to be right now!
