President Trump made the American people a number of promises. But the biggest promise that he made was that he would secure the southern border by building a border wall.
For the first two years of Trump’s Presidency, Congressional Republicans teamed up with Democrats to stop the border wall construction from beginning. Paul Ryan blocked the border wall funding from being approved and prohibited Trump from using any Homeland Security funding to build new border wall sections.
Trump bided his time. He used the available funding to upgrade existing fencing, replacing 8-foot-tall fencing and vehicle barriers with impenetrable 30-foot-tall steel bollard fencing. Just last week, Border Patrol released a video showing illegal aliens unable to climb over the massive new fencing in San Diego.
But President Trump wanted to do more. He wanted to deliver on his promise to build new border wall segments, not just replace old fencing.
So, the President declared a national emergency and reprogrammed Pentagon funding to allow the construction projects to commence. Republicans and Democrats voted together to repeal the emergency declaration, but Trump vetoed the bill. And when the House failed to muster a 2/3 majority to override the veto, the national emergency was allowed to stay in effect. Even the Supreme Court has weighed in and authorized the border wall construction to start…
And now, we are seeing the results. Border Patrol just announced that the first 60-mile section of new border wall (shown above) has been completed in Arizona. They predict that the emergency funding will allow them to construct at least another 450 miles of NEW border wall by the end of next year.
Republicans, however, are vowing to stop him. A dozen Republicans in both the House and Senate joined Democrats back in March to try to cancel the border wall emergency. That wasn’t enough to override Trump’s veto, but it is enough to shut down the project in the upcoming spending bill!
Every year, Congress must pass 12 spending bills to keep the government running and avoid a shut down. One of those bills is the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, which governs Border Patrol spending.
Democrats have just successfully slipped a one-sentence amendment into Section 227 of the legislation that would immediately shut down all border wall construction.
“Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be used for the construction of physical barriers along the southern land border of the United States during fiscal year 2020.”
This one sentence would completely pull the plug on the border wall project.
The next fiscal year begins on October 1st. Congress has to pass this bill in the next 3-4 weeks. If the Democrats are able to slip this amendment through and keep it in the final version of the bill, then all border wall construction will grind to a halt. This one-sentence amendment would block more than 450 miles of new border wall from going up…
But it isn’t just Democrats who are pushing this… Republicans are already lining up to support it in both chambers.
In the House, we count at least 13 Republicans who are willing to vote against the border wall and pull the funding: Amash (MI), Fitzpatrick (PA), Gallagher (WI), Herrera-Beutler (WA), Hurd (TX), Johnson (SD), Massie (KY), Rodgers (WA), Rooney (FL), Sensenbrenner (WI), Stefanik (NY), Upton (MI), and Walden (OR)
In the Senate, we have counted at least a dozen GOPers who are promising to help Democrats pull the wall funding: Alexander (TN), Blunt (MO), Collins (ME), Lee (UT), Moran (KS), Murkowski (AK), Paul (KY), Portman (OH), Rubio (FL), Romney (UT), Toomey (PA), and Wicker (MS)
The Republicans in bold are on the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. They will have the final say in whether this amendment survives into the final version of the spending package. And if they vote with the Democrats, as they are promising to do, then the border wall construction projects will be shut down.
This has always been the GOP’s goal. They never wanted to secure the border. They promised when Trump was elected that they would stop him. This next spending package will be the last one of Trump’s first term. If Trump loses in 2020, then they will have succeeded in blocking the border wall.
You CANNOT let them win!
The establishment tried everything they could to block the border wall project, but President Donald Trump has found a way. Even the Supreme Court has weighed in and found that the border wall construction is both lawful and constitutional.
But now there are 25 Republican Congressmen and Senators who are vowing to pull the plug on this national security project. They would rather keep the border wide open than allow Trump to finish the job.
And those are only the ones we can name. There are other GOP traitors who are itching to stick it to Trump and block the border wall.
We finally have a President willing to do what is necessary to secure the border, but the Republicans are desperate to stop him!
If this one sentence survives into the final bill, then the border wall project is over…
This is it. This is the fight of our time.
Congress will start voting on this bill as early as next week.
If you care about border security and want to stop this GOP betrayal, you must fight back right now!
Hold the line!
