Democrats just slipped a provision into next years spending bill to make Obama's unconstitutional United Nations climate treaty permanent... and they have Republicans helping them!
Yesterday, President Trump gave a speech on his administration's environmental policy. Donald Trump used the speech to condemn the Obama administration's "relentless war" on the American industry and energy sectors and celebrated how his administration has been able to lower emissions without having to give our sovereignty away to the United Nations (as Obama, Biden, and Clinton had intended).
We here ar Conservative Daily have spent the past 6 years fighting against this horrible treaty. We celebrated when President Trump held a press conference two years ago announcing the United States' withdrawal from the United Nations' Paris Climate Agreement, a treaty that the Obama administration signed without the United States Senate ratifying it.
The Founders knew how dangerous it would be for a President to be able to impose international law on the country without Congressional consent. So, what Obama did was find a way around the Constitution's Treaty Clause.
Instead of the UN's regulations becoming binding, Obama's EPA imposed new regulations mirroring what the United Nations would require. The former-President then raided the State Department's discretionary fund and promised to give the UN 3 billion to help it impose try to impose its agenda onto the United States anyway.
In the Summer of 2017, President Trump tried to put a stop to all of this. He announced that the United States would be exiting the Paris Agreement and suspending all of the "donations" that Obama had promised the United Nations. Trump also got to work repealing many of the connected EPA regulations. Leftists in Congress scowled and have spent the last two years working to try to stop President Trump from undoing Obama's signature environmental accomplishment.
We now know how they plan to do that. The House of Representative's version of the State Department Appropriations bill includes two provisions that would stop Trump from formally withdrawing from the UN's radical climate treaty and also force President Trump to follow through with all of the donations that Obama promised the United Nations!
How can this be? Obama signed the treaty without notifying Congress. Shouldn't Trump be able to just un-sign it? You would think so, but when Obama signed, he agreed to the UN's terms. One of those terms was that the United States could not formally withdraw from the Treaty until November 4, 2020 and the United Nations has been enforcing this provision.
That date was picked for a reason. It is one day after the 2020 Presidential election. If Trump wins, he can formally withdraw the United States and we can finally be done with this terrible attempt to surrender our sovereignty to the UN. But if he loses the election, he could still withdraw, but it would be extremely difficult to unravel the entire deal before a Democrat takes over the White House a few weeks later. In other words, the Left would be able to keep us in the deal.
But as President Trump's poll numbers continue to rise, the Left is becoming more and more nervous that Trump will win. That is why they just snuck the following provision into this year's State Department spending bill.
"None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act, or prior Acts making appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs, may be used to provide formal notification under Article 28 of the Paris Agreement of the withdrawal of the United States from such Agreement."
If this passes, President Trump will not be able to formally withdraw from the UN's climate treaty next year. If this provision passes and we miss this window, United States would be forced to stay in this radical wealth-redistribution scheme forever.
But the Left isn't stopping there. The spending package also restores the funding to these UN climate agencies so their Anti-American bureaucrats can continue trying to chip away at our sovereignty. Not only does it ensure that future funds reach the UN, but it also sends them all of the funding that Trump has cut over the past two years.
President Obama had absolutely no right to sign the United States onto this Treaty without Congressional ratification. He had no right to give billions to the UN to help them enact this treaty. But now, Leftists and their Establishment GOP allies are trying to save this unconstitutional treaty by sneaking this language into the upcoming spending bill.
You must stop them!
This isn't just a Democrat operation. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) (shown above) has been working with the Left on this since Trump took office. He was the one who pushed the spending bill through the Senate Appropriations Committee last year to restore some of the funding to the UN's climate agencies.
And Lamar Alexander has already announced that he is retiring at the end of the year, so he can surrender without facing any consequences. But the rest of the GOP is not retiring. The vulnerable Democrats now representing districts that Trump won have to stand for re-election next year.
It is up to you to make sure they understand there will be severe consequences if they try to save Obama's unconstitutional treaty with the UN!
