A month and a half ago, we here at Conservative Daily learned about a case that was truly horrifying. Navy Seal Chief Edward Gallagher, imprisoned since last autumn, was being charged with war crimes he didn't commit.
Military prosecutors tried to charge him with made up crimes and the judge smacked them down and the commander of the military prison was caught defying Pres. Trump's order to move Gallagher to less restrictive custody. Then, the Pentagon was caught withholding exculpatory and exonerating evidence from the defense team and the prosecution's own lawyers were caught spying on Gallagher's attorneys' emails.
We received a lot of hate mail for covering Gallagher's case. People emailed in to us and accused us of spreading fake news and slandering the military prosecutors who were 'just doing their job.'
Well, today Edward Gallagher is out of jail. Military Judge Aaron Rugh examined the same evidence that we covered and concluded on Friday that the military prosecutors violated Gallagher's right to a fair trial.
But here's the catch: this is not a permanent release. Gallagher's trial is still set for June 10, just seven days from now. While the Judge admitted that the military prosecutors violated Gallagher's rights and illegally spied on him, he has said that a pre-trial release is enough to rectify that.
After all of the abuses that Edward Gallagher has endured, the judge believes that a few days out of prison is a fair trade-off.
Not only is this sham prosecution moving forward, but the criminal prosecutors are still being allowed to try the case!
The White House had announced that Pres. Trump was considering pardoning mistreated soldiers like Gallagher, but that was back before Memorial Day. We have now learned that a handful of Republicans pressured Trump to abandon that plan. The media accused the President of trying to pardon "war criminals" and the GOP ordered him to stand down.
This is now the 2nd time that a handful of members of Congress have intervened to stop the President from freeing this innocent man. The first came last month. The prosecutors in the case told Congressmen and Senators that they had video evidence showing Edward Gallagher murdering an injured ISIS captive. The officials warned Republicans and Democrats that if they went to bat for Gallagher, they would be embarrassed once the video went public.
Here's the problem. That was a lie. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) heard our pleas and fought to get a copy of this video to show his colleagues in Congress. Not only does the video prove that the prosecutors LIED, but it shows that Gallagher actually used his med kit to provide life saving aid to the injured terrorist.
This whole thing has been a sham from the start.
We are thankful that a judge realized this and allowed Chief Gallagher to return home to his family until his trial is over. But that is not enough.
This man has suffered enough. Many of the bogus charges against him were already thrown out for lack of evidence and a military judge has confirmed that prosecutors were spying on the defense attorneys' emails. But despite all of this, he is still set to stand trial in a little less than a week!
President Trump is overseas visiting the United Kingdom. He likely isn't being briefed on what is happening and if he is, it is from the same GOP cowards who pressured him to abandon his pardon plan.
This man fought for his country and received two bronze stars for valor. Time after time, he answered the call and went overseas to serve. He was the tip of the spear defending Americans' freedoms. He doesn't deserve any of this...
Congress is in session today. There are still conservatives like Hunter and Dan Crenshaw who are fighting to get Gallagher truly freed before it is too late.
But they need your help and they need it right now!
