Republicans lawmakers just caved and agreed to help Democrats push through a bill to let the government disarm innocent gun owners!
The 2nd Amendment states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. It wasn't written to give you that right. The Founders understood that this was all men and women had a God-given right to self-defense.
No, the 2nd Amendment was written to stop Government from ever trying to violate that right. "Shall not be infringed" is supposed to be easy to understand, but over the last hundred years, all three branches of government have chipped away at this fundamental right, declaring who can and cannot own which types of guns.
Most of this wasn't controversial. For example, violent felons and the mentally deranged shouldn't have guns. The problem is that gun grabbers didn't stop there. Their goal has always been civilian disarmament and they've been inching towards it.
And after all of these years, the establishments of both parties are pushing a bill that would give them what they always wanted: the power to disarm innocent gun owners!
The bill has evolved over the last year. You played a huge role in this. When the GOP was poised to help Democrats create a Federal gun confiscation program, you lashed out and forced Republicans like Lindsey Graham to pump the brakes. But the Democrats and anti-gun Republicans didn't abandon their plan. They met behind closed doors and "compromised."
No, the GOP didn't secure anything for gun owners. They didn't get the Left to agree to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act or the bill to deregulate suppressors... No, in this case, the word "compromise" means that Republicans are only going to let Democrats confiscate some Americans' guns.
Instead of a Federal gun confiscation program, the "compromise" is that Congress will force states to create 50 almost identical state-level confiscation programs.
The bill is called the Jake Laird Act and it isn't just a Democrat bill. It is also being sponsored by Republicans Susan Brooks (MO), Fred Upton (MI), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA).
The premise is pretty simple. Up until now, police and prosecutors had to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that someone broke the law or was mentally ill before a judge would allow their firearms to be confiscated. The government actually has to prove that you did something wrong before they can revoke your God-given right to self-defense. That's what makes this a right and not a privilege.
This new "Red Flag" bill, however, would allow the government to suspend your constitutional rights if someone else warns them that you're dangerous. No evidence... No real investigation... All it takes is a vengeful ex, estranged family member, or spiteful neighbor turning you into police.
We saw this last year in Maryland. Police showed up at 61-year-old Gary Willis' door at 5 a.m. with a court order demanding he turn over his firearm collection. Apparently, he got into an argument with a family member and she decided to tell police he was "dangerous" to get the final word. Willis, knowing nothing about the confiscation order, refused to comply. He was shot and killed by police in his own doorway.
This is what the establishment's gun control "compromise" looks like. And Republicans have teamed up with Democrats to take this nationwide!
Make no mistake. This is the biggest threat to the 2nd Amendment that we have faced in years. Both parties are literally talking about disarming innocent people.
Democrats are claiming now that they have the votes to push this through both the House and the Senate and they want to ram it through this coming week.
You must rise up right now and stop them before it's too late!
