This is not a drill. The GOP establishment has given the green light to Marco Rubio and Susan Collins' gun confiscation bill, Senate Bill 7. Lindsey Graham confirmed that the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on the confiscation bill in just a little over a week.
The Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act is a disgrace. It is the Republican Party's attempt to meet gun control advocates 'halfway.' Instead of pushing a gun ban or universal gun registry, like Democrats want, the GOP has introduced legislation to make it a hundred-times easier for the government to confiscate your firearms!
There's no negotiating with anti-gun leftists. Their only goal is to abolish the 2nd Amendment. If they can't do it all at once, they're more than happy to chip away at it little by little.
But the GOP doesn't care about that. They are only interested in preserving their power, even if that means stabbing YOU in the back!
The founders wrote the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution specifically to make sure that none of the three branches of government could ever abolish the God-given right to self-defense.
The United States Congress is now trying to do just that!
Lindsey Graham just announced that he has made a deal with Democrats to "come together" and pass this massive gun confiscation bill.
Here is how the GOP's proposal would work.
Any family member or friend would suddenly get the power to turn gun owners into police by claiming they pose a "threat to themselves or others." Even if that is a bald-faced lie, police can then bring these claims before a judge.
The judge, without even letting the gun owner mount a defense, decides whether their 2nd Amendment rights should be suspended. This suspension can last 26 to 52 weeks (a whole year).
Only after their rights have been suspended and guns confiscated is the gun owner allowed to mount a legal defense. But instead of being innocent until proven guilty, this "Red Flag" bill flips that upside down. The disarmed gun owner is presumed guilty and must convince a judge that he or she deserves to have their rights back. If the judge disagrees, then the disarmament order stays in effect.
No real evidence gets presented in these hearings. It is just the gun owner's word against whoever turned them into police. And the Judge has already determined that the accuser is credible
If this bill passes, then the right to keep and bear arms is no more. How can you call it a right if the government has the power to suspend it based on pure hearsay and without any real evidence? Judges would be able to approve disarmament orders without police or prosecutors needing to accuse the suspect of committing a crime. This is crazy.
We all want to make sure that dangerous and deranged people don't get their hands on weapons. But the law already gives police all the tools they need to do that.
The solution is NOT to make it easier for the government to disarm law-abiding citizens like you!
If this bill passes, it will be abused. Ex-spouses, vengeful neighbors, estranged family members, and even complete strangers would suddenly gain the power to ruin gun owners' lives simply by telling police they think they are dangerous.
Democrats want a total gun ban. The GOP wants to meet them in the middle and just make it easier for the government to suspend Americans' constitutional rights.
And they're hoping you aren't paying attention to their backstabbing!
Lindsey Graham has already let the secret slip. The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on this gun confiscation bill in a little over a week. Then, Establishment Republicans will team up with Democrats to push the bill through onto the floor.
Graham has secured a promise from President Trump to sign this bill if it reaches his desk.
If we're going to stop this monstrosity, we must kill it in committee!
