One of the best things about the United States is that all men and women are created equal. We have a government of, by, and for the people. Elected officials don't have any more rights than the average citizen, and that is by design. The United States is supposed to be a citizen government.
In recent weeks, we have seen just how rabid the Left has become. In just the past week, high-ranking Democrats have actually encouraged their followers to get violent. Hillary Clinton told liberals to ditch civility until Democrats retake the House and Senate. Former Attorney General Eric Holder literally told leftists to turn violent in order to defeat conservatives.
We've seen targeted violence against members of Congress — Steve Scalise and Rand Paul come to mind. Liberals are literally searching out Republicans to harass them in the streets.
Congress understands that they need more protection. But what the GOP is working on is absolutely shameful.
Behind the scenes, the Republican leadership is working on a bill to grant nationwide concealed carry rights… but only to members of Congress!
The proposals first surfaced last year in the immediate aftermath of the Congressional baseball shooting. There are a number of bills that have been introduced, but we are hearing that Congress is mostly debating between the Congressional Self Defense Act (HR2940) and the Congressional Personal Safety Act (HR2945).
Both bills — sponsored by Reps. Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Jody Hice (R-GA) would immediately give Congressmen and Senators the power to carry a firearm anywhere, anytime. The only difference is whether they should be allowed to carry inside of the Capitol building.
Congress is basically saying they want "rights for me, not for thee…" It is horrendously tone deaf.
Just this week, a Trump supporter had his pickup truck firebombed in Washington state. He thinks it is because of the Trump stickers that he had on the rear window. The mob spray painted "Trump" on the side of the truck before torching it, just to make sure there wasn't any question over their motive…
There is no doubt that the left is coming for Members of Congress and they need protection. But Americans need protection too.
However, Congress is preparing to leave 320 million Americans out in the cold. They want to create an aristocracy where Members of Congress have more rights than anyone else. I am not talking about more privileges… more rights.
Members of Congress would have a right to self-defense in all 50 states. You would not.
Pretty shameful, huh?
Congress has two options. They can give nationwide carry rights to all Americans, or only to themselves.
They can protect and expand the 2nd Amendment for all law-abiding adults, or they can give themselves more rights than anyone else in the country.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is the only solution. It would grant nationwide reciprocity to all lawfully issued carry permits. That includes non-resident permits issued to people living in gun control states. Liberal states like California, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Delaware, and Rhode Island would no longer be able to arbitrarily deny carry rights to their residents and out-of-state visitors. They would be forced to honor the 2nd Amendment as written: that the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed. Of course, that would include Members of Congress as well.
Every law-abiding American would have a pathway to bear arms in all 50 states. For the first time in our history, liberal anti-gun states would be forced to honor the 2nd Amendment.
But Democrats aren't going down without a fight. They're agreeing to pass a concealed carry bill as long as it doesn't apply to 99.99 percent of Americans.
The Founders knew that this day would come when parts of government would once again turn on its citizens' rights. We all experienced the gun control push after Sandy Hook. You know just how close you came to losing your rights.
Now, just as we were about to cement and protect the 2nd Amendment for generations to come, the GOP is turning their backs on us…
Your brother in arms,
