President Trump made a lot of campaign promises when running for President. One of them was a promise to sign nationwide concealed carry legislation. Being a New Yorker with a Concealed Carry permit — the equivalent of a unicorn — he understands how unconstitutional anti-gun states’ carry restrictions are. Since he also has properties around the country, he has also learned first-hand how idiotic it is for states not to recognize one another’s carry permits.
So, he made a simple promise: If elected, Pres. Trump would require that states issue their residents carry permits as well as honor out-of-state ones.
Now that we’re starting year two of the Trump Presidency, pro-gun Congressmen are calling on the White House to make good on that promise. And this coming week, Rep. Richard Hudson — the author of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act — is having a meeting at the White House this week to move this legislation forward.
There is just one problem: Mitch McConnell refuses to schedule a vote and Paul Ryan is refusing to force the issue.
We have the Conservatives… We have the President’s support… but the GOP leadership is still standing in the way!
For forty-five straight weeks, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has collected dust in the Senate. That is how long Mitch McConnell has been blocking it.
Now, President Trump is stepping in!
He is meeting with the bill’s author and supporters to devise a plan to get it signed into law.
What would that mean? Any law-abiding American would be able to use their concealed carry permit to carry nationwide. For the 25% of Americans living in states that refuse to recognize the 2nd Amendment, this bill would let gun owners use a non-resident permit from a state like Utah or Florida to carry nationwide as well. In short, this bill would restore the Second Amendment to the way the Founders intended.
The Republican leadership in the House tried so many times to stop this bill. They used every high profile shooting as an excuse to cancel votes on the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. Together, we forced them to allow the bill to the floor and it passed with a bipartisan majority.
The House sent the bill over to the Senate and Mitch McConnell put it in the pile along with the 300+ other bills he is refusing to put to a vote. Meanwhile, Paul Ryan is refusing to add the bill to any must-pass pieces of legislation. He is also content with letting it die.
President Trump, however, is not. He’s fighting back and demanding that Congress send him the biggest pro-gun bill in US history. But, he needs your help!
Enough is enough. We are calling on all Members of Congress — Congressmen and Senators alike — to pass this common sense bill by any means necessary. That includes bypassing Mitch McConnell with a discharge petition and, yes, that includes the nuclear option.
There are 51 Republican Senators. There are eight Democrat Senators up for re-election this year in pro-gun states that Trump won. The votes are there to pass this life-saving bill, but Mitch McConnell refuses to do what is necessary to get it passed.
Enough is enough!
Going nuclear would allow the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act to pass with just 51 votes in the Senate. That means that we wouldn’t even need a single Democrat vote to pass it. But if RINOs like McCain or Flake wanted to block it, there are more than enough vulnerable Democrats up for re-election this year in pro-gun states like Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, or Missouri.
Now that Doug Jones has been sworn in as the next Senator for Alabama, it would take full Republican participation and then nine Democrats to pass it under the current rules.
But if Congress goes nuclear, we could pass it into law TODAY.
McConnell is literally stalling. It is up to us to make sure Congress understands that a right delayed is a right denied!
