This is breaking news. Congressman Jeff Duncan is warning that his legislation, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (Share) Act, is on life support in Congress.
He has been pressuring Paul Ryan to schedule a vote on the bill and he has finally received a response.
Congress will vote on it, but he will have to remove the most important pro-gun provisions. No concealed carry reciprocity… no deregulation of suppressors… just a bunch of token, feel good provisions. On top of that, Ryan and the GOP want Duncan to add Dianne Feinstein's latest gun ban bill as an amendment. Yes, it is that bad.
The Left has done a number on Congress, convincing them that it would be suicide to pass these major pro-gun reforms. Many are running scared and refusing to vote for any pro-gun bill.
Rep. Duncan isn't giving up. He is doubling down and personally working to convince all of his colleagues to get behind this once-in-a-lifetime pro-2nd Amendment bill, but he needs your help!
We have covered these measures at length. The Supreme Court is not going to come to the rescue on the right to carry. The Washington DC Attorney General just deliberately accepted defeat in order to make sure the Supreme Court didn't have an opportunity to rule on the right to bear arms. That puts us years away from the highest Court hearing a challenge to liberal states' gun bans.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would take our destiny into our own hands and settle that the right to carry applies nationwide, not just in your home state. If someone has a right to carry issued by one state, they would be allowed to use it in every state, even if they have a non-resident permit from a state they don't live in! That is huge. It would dismantle the anti-gun regimes in California, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, Hawaii, and Rhode Island, where the government is able to arbitrarily deny concealed carry applications at any time, for any reason.
The second major provision that Paul Ryan is trying to strip from the Share Act is the Hearing Protection Act. Back in the 1930s, Congress passed the National Firearms Act, making it next to impossible for everyday Americans to own suppressors. The legislation applied a 200 dol lar tax to their purchase, forced gun owners to jump through hoops to apply, and then created a paper-heavy approval process that took months. That might not seem like a big tax, but this was passed during the Great Depression and only the rich and powerful could afford it.
The Hearing Protection Act identifies that the days of worrying about Prohibition-era gangsters are over and the NFA is in need of modernization. Instead of forcing someone to pay $200 for a background check, they'd be able to give the FBI just a few bucks. Then, instead of waiting months for the ATF to perform a background check, they would get access to the FBI's instant background check system and receive a yes-or-no response in minutes. Considering that there are millions of legally owned suppressors in the US, this is simply common sense.
But Paul Ryan doesn't want any of these measures in the final bill. In his words, "the timing isn't right." Instead, he wants Rep. Duncan to add a version of Dianne Feinstein's latest gun ban legislation, which is nothing but a disguised assault weapon ban.
This is worse than we ever could have imagined. We have succeeded in pressuring Congress to hold the vote, but the GOP wants every major pro-gun provision stripped from the bill and replaced with a gun ban!
Congress is full of cowards. There are a few honorable Congressmen and Senators here and there who stand on conviction, but the overwhelming majority are more interested in the polls than fighting for the principles they ran on.
This is our once-in-a-generation to restore the 2nd Amendment to ALL Americans and get rid of an 83-year-old gun control law in the process.
Right now, people like Paul Ryan are running scared because their political strategists are telling them a vote for pro-gun legislation will hurt their re-election prospects. Your job as an American and as a constitutionalist is literally to convince them of the opposite: they will be voted out if they don't vote for these pro-gun bills.
Paul Ryan is attempting a historic bait and switch: Passing the bill we have demanded, but without any of the major provisions we want. This is the ultimate betrayal!
Stand and fight back!
