The Second Review Conference on the “United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects” just ended, and we are awaiting a date for the next negotiations to begin. We must act now to defeat it, because this program is enjoying broad support throughout the United Nations member states, including representatives for the United States of America!
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama are working “hand in glove” with the United Nations to pass this massive gun control scheme.
That certainly is remarkable, considering the angle Democrats have taken during this election season. We’ve got a WAR ON WOMEN remember? Because Obama can’t run on his record, he is running on the platform that conservatives want to take away women’s rights and Democrats, bless their hearts, want to do everything they can to empower women.
But at this last conference on the UN Small Arms Treaty, Second Amendment Foundation Director of Operations Julianne Versnel testified that this treaty, as it is written now, would harm women and endanger their human rights. She asserted that women should have the right to protect themselves from violence. “If there is a basic sanctity of a woman’s person, if there is a right to not be a victim of sexual or personal violence, then that right involves the right to defend one’s self,” Versnel said.
What do you think “pro-women” Democrats like Obama and Clinton would have to say about that?
The UN is working diligently to pass a Small Arms Treaty that will:
- Enact tougher licensing requirements, making it almost impossible for you, an individual, to own a firearm
- Require the government to confiscate firearms owned by individuals
- Place further restrictions on the sale of arms
- Create an international gun registry
Basically, if the treaty is passed by the UN and ratified by the Senate, you will give up your Second Amendment rights and turn gun control over to the United Nations. It also could mean that foreign nations—including our enemies—will have access to your personal information. It will give crooks and thugs at the United Nations control over your freedoms and your right to own and operate a firearm.
Sheldon Clare, President of Canada’s National Firearms Association (NFA), made one of the most passionate presentations against the treaty. He said one of the reasons his group attended the conference was because the Small Arms Treaty “is alive and potentially dangerous.”
And then he went on to state: “Quite simply, firearms ownership and use are matters of national sovereignty, civil freedoms, property rights, and are related to national culture.
Self-defense is a natural right of all individuals. Civilian ownership of arms is an important factor in preventing and limiting the effect of government-encouraged murders such as what occurred in Srebrenica and Rwanda. Disarmed in Srebrenica by UN peacekeepers and in Rwanda by their own government, these people were helpless in the face of organized aggression, especially when in both cases the UN was powerless to provide protection. While governments need to act against terrorism, disarming civilians violates fundamental democratic principles.”
The UN claims the treaty will prevent terrorists and radical regimes from acquiring weapons. But, we know the truth. Gun control legislation does nothing to deter criminal behavior, it simply burdens law-abiding citizens like you and me, who wish to own firearms for protection and recreation.
And the UN treaty completely ignores what Canada’s NFA pointed out, that rogue and violent governments can dominate their populations if citizens are unable to fight back.
But, an unarmed America is a weakened America, and that is just what the U.N. wants.
This treaty is in consistent motion. The UN website states that “significant progress” has been made over the past few years to implement it, and gives examples of what member states are doing to support aspects of the program.
It is interesting to read the so-called “progress” the UN claims it has made, and it is even more interesting when one considers which nations are actually participating in these discussions and enthusiastically working toward a final document.
Saudi Arabia has created national focal points and has recommended a national weapons database.
Guatemala wants to strengthen international cooperation and assistance.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said they have begun to trace and mark weapons and have established national commissions to develop small arms legislation.
Cuba wants a final document as soon as possible so Governments can “ensure effective implementation.”
China urges the international community to take effective measures and notes that, “poverty and social unrest provide breeding grounds for the illicit small arms trade to grow and sprawl”.
And Iran, of all countries, was given the honor of leading the negotiations in July.
When Iran, China, Cuba and Saudi Arabia are aggressively pushing an agenda, shouldn’t we take a step back and seriously consider that agenda?
Don’t take silence from Congress as an indication that this treaty isn’t coming our way. Many in Congress would love to push for limiting our Second Amendment rights, especially in the wake of the recent tragic shootings across America.
But, it’s an election year, and they need to keep quiet for a couple of months and not anger their constituents.
In the meantime, the UN can continue working on the treaty, and after the November elections, the gun control lobby can pounce and get the treaty ratified.
Remember, conservatives do NOT have a majority right now in the Senate. We would like to have one after the November elections, but that is not guaranteed.
So, the very best we can do right now is push for support of S. 2205 and H.R. 4846, bills that will protect Americans from any U.N. treaty and keep our sovereignty in place.
It may seem inconceivable that our “leaders” would allow a world body like the United Nations to decimate our Second Amendment rights—but it is definitely not out of the question, especially with Barack Obama in the White House!
After all, he has shown great disdain for both our Constitution AND our Congress, frequently bypassing both to get what he wants.
Do you honestly believe that President Obama is going to “go to bat” for our Bill of Rights against the United Nations? He has proven time and time again he’s willing to tear down the foundations of this country in order to impose his agenda—and his agenda includes handing over our sovereignty to a world body like the United Nations.
Let’s do all we can to fight this. Opponents of the Second Amendment will not rest, and neither should those of us who value our Constitutional rights.
