LIKE A PLAUGE, INTERNET CENSORSHIP HAS SPREAD TO THE UNITED STATES!!

UPDATE

Over the last few months, Conservative-Daily has been covering the growth of the worldwide censorship of the Internet. This disturbing trend is not only rampant in authoritative countries like China and Russia, but has also invaded democracies like Spain and, most frighteningly, the United States.  Internet censorship is the enemy of free speech.  We must protect our First Amendment rights at all costs!  Like tumbling dominoes, if our freedom of speech falls, so will all our other constitutionally guaranteed freedoms.

A non-speech regulated internet is one of the greatest tools to promote free speech that has ever been invented; arguably outranking even the Guttenberg printing press.  Free speech terrifies dictators and non-democratic regimes as the Internet has been shown to be quite effective in preserving democracy and toppling dictatorships.  Therefore, it must be protected at all costs.  A non-speech regulated Internet is the lynchpin for democracy in the 21st century.

First, we alerted you to a United Nations (UN) plan to gain worldwide control over the Internet (read here: https://conservative-daily.com/2012/05/29/veto-the-uns-global-internet-censorship-proposal/).  Such pro-censorship stalwarts such as Russia, China, and Brazil are backing the plan.  If such a proposal is enacted, the UN would be able to control, regulate and censor the worldwide web and it would make the UN one of the most powerful bodies on earth; all without a single democratic vote.

There are two problems with this plan: first, it would make a socialist body such as the UN far too powerful.  No one governing body should be able to control the flow of information throughout the world. Secondly, such a move would eviscerate the First Amendment of the US Constitution and would thereby partially destroy the sovereignty of the United States.

We also brought you a story concerning a secret proposal that was recently leaked by two students at the George Mason University Mercatus Center.  According to leaked documents, this secret proposal would allow the UN to TAX US based internet providers for the “luxury” or providing internet access to the rest of the world. (Read here: https://conservative-daily.com/2012/06/15/the-un-plan-to-tax-and-eventually-control-the-internet/).

Not only does the UN want to gain control over the internet, but it wants to PUNISH American ingenuity by taxing SOLELY American companies for what it believes is the privilege to provide internet access worldwide.  The European Telecommunications Network Operators Association (ETNO) is secretly pushing this plan through the UN; these are the European competitors to US based Internet companies!!

This plan is a slam dunk for a socialist organization like the UN whose key policy phrases such as “sustainable development” are simply another way to mask and parade Marxist principles (read more: https://conservative-daily.com/2012/05/30/stop-the-un-plans-to-use-radical-eco-tactics-destroy-americas-democracy/).  Any tax on US Internet providers is simply an attempt to redistribute the wealth created by American companies during the intent boom.  By design, such a plan would hurt the US economy; it would wipe out much needed jobs in our country, it would unfairly strengthen US competitors, and would send us spiraling closer to a centralized, authoritative UN government.

As if on cue, this week Google released a frightening report surrounding growing censorship requests from governments worldwide (the official Google Transparency Report can be found here: http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/removals/government/).

The findings of this report are sobering.  In the United States, censorship request were up 718% over the last six months (6,192 requests in the second half of 2011 and only 757 in the previous six months).  In fact, outside of Brazil (one of the countries pushing for UN Internet Censorship) the United States had the most incidents of government agencies seeking to censor the Internet over the last six months.

We have been chronicling the authoritative character of President Obama’s administration for a long time now; here is more proof of his administration’s hatred of YOUR free speech.

We are not the only country with free speech Internet problems; China (another country in favor of UN regulation of the internet) has dubbed censorship requests as state secrets and therefore cannot be revealed.  How long until the Obama administration follows suit of its political descendent, Communist China?  How long until he allows the UN to regulate and censor our Internet?

The First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, in the United States, and that freedom extends to the Internet.  Therefore, we must demand that that the United States government treats our First Amendment rights as sacrosanct.  We must demand that our government cease any and all unconstitutional censorship requests and make certain that the United States government does not give away our First Amendment rights and national sovereignty to any foreign body; including the United Nations!
