Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) officially announced Monday that the House Oversight Committee will vote next week on proceeding with contempt charges against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

This rare and serious step has become necessary because Holder and the Department of Justice have refused to turn over thousands of pages of subpoenaed documents, while stonewalling a Congressional investigation at every turn.

"The Obama Administration has not asserted Executive Privilege or any other valid privilege over these materials and it is unacceptable that the Department of Justice refuses to produce them. These documents pertain to Operation Fast and Furious, the claims of whistleblowers, and why it took the Department nearly a year to retract false denials of reckless tactics," Issa wrote in a statement.

Fast and Furious, of course, refers to the DoJ's horribly flawed "gun walking" scheme that illegally sent U.S. guns and assault rifles into Mexico, resulting in the death of a federal agent.

If the committee votes for contempt—and indications are that it will—then an historic floor vote before the entire United States House of Representatives will follow!

It is certainly more than possible that the House will seek criminal penalties against Holder. The House Leadership appears to be on board. In a statement supporting the move, Speaker of the House John Boehner said, "The Justice Department is out of excuses."

He went on to say: "Congress has given Attorney General Holder more than enough time to fully cooperate with its investigation into 'Fast and Furious,' and to help uncover the circumstances regarding the death of Border Agent Brian Terry."

The vote in the House Oversight Committee is currently scheduled for next Wednesday. In order for the members of that committee to stick to their guns, and for the entire House to follow suit, conservative activists need to act NOW so that the grassroots uproar will thunder through the halls of Congress.
