"The New York Times called it a 'mystery,' but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now."
On Wednesday, Seymour Hersh released a new substack post entitled, "How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline." The piece is explosive while citing unnamed sources, but consider Hersh's tee up:
"Now, with Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border and the bloodiest war in Europe since 1945 looming, President Joseph Biden saw the pipelines as a vehicle for Vladimir Putin to weaponize natural gas for his political and territorial ambitions...Biden’s decision to sabotage the pipelines came after more than nine months of highly secret back and forth debate inside Washington’s national security community about how to best achieve that goal. For much of that time, the issue was not whether to do the mission, but how to get it done with no overt clue as to who was responsible."
It's important to state that the White House and CIA vehemently deny Hersh's reporting. This is not surprising, considering this is an act of war and is now being called out as such by the Russians. According to Reuters this morning:
"Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said there would be 'consequences' for Washington, adding the report was not a surprise for Russia as it had long considered the United States and possibly other NATO members were behind the blasts. 'I think there will be consequences from this,' state news agency RIA quoted Ryabkov as saying on Thursday. Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, said the report should become the basis for an international investigation for 'bringing Biden and his accomplices to justice.'"
Checks and balances. Our government is set up with checks and balances to ensure that one compromised branch cannot unilaterally destroy our nation. It only works if you do your job.
