Every major piece of firearm legislation that has passed in the past three decades has taken something away from us. And now, Democrats are once again calling for an expansion of the federal government’s gun background check law!
Nothing ever seems to be enough for these people. Gun control advocates continue to argue that American gun owners need to “compromise” for “common sense” gun reforms.
That’s ridiculous! We have already “compromised” enough! We gave an inch and they took a mile.
Last year, Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA) introduced H.R. 5606, a piece of legislation that would have outlawed “homemade” firearms. We defeated this anti-gun bill then, partly because we held Congress’ feet to the fire during a critical election year. No one wanted to be branded as the Congressman who banned homemade firearms.
But now that their re-election has been secured, Congress is reintroducing legislation to make you a FELON if you build your own plastic firearms!
In 2013, a bipartisan majority in both chambers of Congress voted to pass the Undetectable Firearms Act. Obama signed the bill into law and it is now once again illegal to build a firearm made entirely out of plastic. That’s not that big of a deal because any really functional completed firearm needs a few metal parts to function (firing pin, barrel, springs, etc).
The original bill was going to be much stricter. Democrats – specifically Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) – wanted to ban a wide range of popular guns simply because they had plastic parts. He wanted to make it illegal for law abiding citizens to create their own guns with plastic parts. Republicans have told us to just be happy that the Democrats didn’t get exactly what they wanted… But that’s not how this is supposed to work! We shouldn’t have to surrender anything!
Now, Democrats are making another big push to make it illegal for citizens to build their own guns! They want to criminalize the use of a 3-D printer to create a firearm. They want to criminalize ANYONE who has a plastic/polymer firearm. When Glock revealed its polymer-framed handgun in the 1980s, it revolutionized the firearms industry. And the Left has tried to demonize plastic guns ever since.
We shouldn’t have to swallow ANY bitter pill when it comes the Second Amendment!
Many pundits have suggested that this new bill has no chance of making it through the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, but they said the same about the bill to ban plastic guns… And what did John Boehner do? He caved under the pressure and allowed the plastic gun ban to be passed!
This new push to ban many homemade guns is once again being spearheaded by Rep. Steve Israel. He is calling it the "Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act," even though the last Undetectable Firearms Act was just passed two years ago. He has announced that he is reintroducing this bill to completely ban homemade and plastic guns. This is what he recently told a tech magazine (try not to laugh).
“My legislation is about making sure that we have laws in place to ensure that criminals and terrorists can’t produce guns that can easily be made undetectable. Security checkpoints will do little good if criminals can produce plastic firearms and bring those firearms through metal detectors into secure areas like airports or courthouses. When I started talking about the issue of completely plastic firearms, I was told the idea of a plastic gun is science-fiction. That science-fiction is now a dangerous reality.”
We have laws on the books that say it is illegal to use an inkjet printer to print out copyrighted materials. That does nothing to stop people from printing out books and other copyrighted materials. The only way to truly stop this would be to put a police officer in everyone’s home office.
This Leftist fool actually believes that putting words on a piece of paper will stop terrorists from using available technology to carry out their attacks. The best comparison I can provide is the Boston Marathon bombing. The Tsarnaev brothers used fireworks, nails, and a pressure cooker to build a bomb. There are already laws against this and they broke all of them. But no one came out and proposed banning pressure cookers.
This is how the government operates. It uses terrorism as an excuse to further infringe on your liberty. But to paraphrase the great Benjamin Franklin, “those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.”
Whether you build your own guns or not, this bill CANNOT be allowed to pass!
It isn’t hard to tell why Rep. Israel and his allies are trying to ban these homemade firearms. Criminals don’t need to build their own guns. They just steal them or buy them on the street. No, Democrats want to ban homemade guns because they want to make sure that the government knows everyone who has a gun!
One of the main reasons that Americans build their own firearms is because they believe it is none of the government’s business what weapons they own. And they’re right.
Liberals are terrified of YOU! They see the American people as a potential threat to their tyranny. And do you know what? They should be afraid of us! Members of Congress should be afraid of reprisal if they trample on our rights!
Liberals claim that the background check system stops felons and fugitives from buying guns. But only around 0.06% of all background check denials are actually prosecuted! In 2010, for example, there were more than 34,000 felons and almost 14,000 fugitives who were denied during the background check process. The Obama administration only prosecuted FORTY-FOUR (44) of them!
We know that the NICS system doesn’t punish criminals because the administration can’t even be bothered to prosecute them once they’re caught… What the background check system does accomplish, however, is that it gives the administration an idea of who is purchasing firearms. Liberals don’t want us to own unregistered firearms because they want to eliminate your ability to resist tyranny.
Whether you build your own firearms or not… You should have the right to own whatever you want and the only reason that these liberals and RINOs want to take that right away is because they want to CONTROL you!
We’ve been burned before. So-called “conservatives” supported similar legislation last year with regards to plastic guns. We cannot afford to assume they won’t support this again!
Not one step backwards! Stop Congress from chipping away at your Second Amendment rights!
