This past week, ATF Director B. Todd Jones announced his resignation as Director of the ATF. This departure comes on the heels of the ATF’s failed attempt to ban popular AR-15 ammunition.
His temporary replacement has already been announced: current Deputy Director Thomas Brandon.
Now, that name probably doesn’t ring a bell. And it shouldn’t. But Thomas Brandon is the ATF bureaucrat behind the agency’s cover-up of Operation Fast and Furious!
That’s right. On April 2, 2014, former-Director Jones testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. In his testimony, it was revealed that Thomas Brandon was the “ultimate decision maker” in punishing those involved in the gun-walking scandal that ultimately led to U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry, I.C.E. Agent Jaime Zapata and an untold number of Mexicans being murdered with those unlawfully trafficked firearms.
Thomas Brandon had carte blanche to fire or punish whomever he wanted. But when the investigation was over, it was revealed that Thomas Brandon didn’t fire a single person.
The 471-page Inspector General Report, on the other hand, found that 14 employees deserved to be fired. None of them were. Now, the person in charge of responding to the scandal has been promoted to Director of the entire ATF!
It really is simple. The ATF is now being led by a bureaucrat who was responsible for covering-up the administration’s attempt to traffic guns to Mexican cartels in order to justify more gun control.
Make no mistake, that is exactly what Fast and Furious was about. While traveling in Central America, Hillary Clinton made the claim that American guns were to blame for the crime that was consuming these countries. The ATF had to create the evidence to prove it. So, they allowed Mexican drug cartels to buy an entire cache of firearms from gun stores.
Obama’s ATF was so focused on going after the Second Amendment that they forgot to seize the weapons before they crossed the border.
After the scandal broke, Thomas Brandon was given a simple job: punish those at the heart of the scandal. He didn’t do that. Instead, he offered them an opportunity to keep their jobs as long as they didn’t become whistleblowers.
William Newell was the agent in charge of the operation. Every single IG report placed the blame on him for the failed operation and recommended that he be fired. But he wasn’t fired. He was simply reassigned.
Thomas Brandon shouldn’t be in charge of ATF. He shouldn’t be in charge of anything!
It is Congress’ job to confirm a replacement ATF Director. Instead, the administration is putting its own lackey in charge, one that covered up the agency’s involvement in Fast and Furious.
No one in the media is talking about this. They’re all too focused on the plane crash in the French Alps. But that doesn’t mean this is less important. In fact, I would say it is more important.
Thomas Brandon is going to be the decision maker at the ATF now. He is going to decide which ammunition gets banned, which guns are outlawed… This CANNOT be allowed to happen!
Force Congress to STOP this corrupt and anti-gun bureaucrat from being promoted to ATF Director
